In many churches across Bristol, youth ministries are critically under-resourced, leaving young people without the guidance and community they need. While a strong majority of churches run children’s ministries—80% of smaller churches (under 50 people) and 99% of larger ones (over 150 people)—youth ministries are far less common. Only 50% of smaller churches and 89% of larger churches offer programs specifically for youth aged 11-18.
The need becomes even more pressing when we look at the availability of volunteers. While 7% of churches have no children and 14% have no youth aged 11-18, even among those with young attendees, support is lacking. Seven percent of churches have children but no volunteers for them, and a striking 26% have youth but lack dedicated volunteers.
Additionally, over 40% of small churches feel that their youth work isn’t making the impact they hope for, compared to 22.5% who express similar concerns about children’s ministries.
The Müllers Youth Outreach Fund aims to bridge these gaps by providing vital resources and support to local churches, empowering them to create meaningful, effective programs for young people.
Catalyst Collective
How can churches of the Bristol region work together to see young people’s lives changed by Jesus? Müllers’ “Catalyst Collective” seeks to address the issues of decreasing numbers of young people, unsupported youth workers, low resources, staff retention, and low church confidence in delivering fruitful youth ministry.
Müllers Church Partners who employ a youth worker for 21 hours a week or more are asked to tithe their time, giving 3.5 hours a week to serve the city of Bristol.
Members of the Collective are:
Provided with free monthly training
Put in teams with other youth workers for mutual support
Coach to up to 4 volunteer youth leaders around the city
Placed with under-resourced churches in areas of deprivation to catalyse youth ministry provision.
