Those expressing a wish that gifts are sent to Christian workers and organisations can be assured that we do not deduct any charges but we are thankful to God for gifts that help with our costs. Each year we receive a number of gifts with a request that they be sent to Christian workers and organisations with whom we have had no previous contact. Our practice is to enquire of those workers and organisations concerning the nature of their work in order both to ensure that the charity’s objects are fulfilled but also to ensure that Charity Commission guidance is followed.
Gifts sent for the general purposes of SKI will be sent to those in particular need with whom we are in touch. It is possible to use various tax efficient giving schemes and further details can be obtained from Müller House. Please make cheques payable to the Scriptural Knowledge Institution and not to named Christian workers or organisations.
Each year we feature on these pages a brief summary of the current work of a few of the Christian workers and organisations with whom we are in contact. These are found in every continent and we regularly send gifts to those working in Africa, the Americas, different parts of Asia including India, to the Middle and Far East, to Europe and of course also to those working in the United Kingdom too. A great many of those workers are involved in working with children, young people and families but there are also some who are working with the elderly, are church planting, training and equipping Pastors etc. Most of the workers to whom we channel funding are involved in long-term Christian service. They are living by faith and are not supported or employed by a large missionary organisation. Their activities embrace a variety of caring and evangelistic ministries and some of them are foreign workers, working in their own or neighbouring countries.
We would have liked to feature the work of some SKI-supported workers in the report because of the amazing impact of their work locally but they are working in countries where we need to be sensitive concerning more general publication of their activities. Please pray for those nameless workers in such circumstances.
The work of SKI is now in its 171st year and its record of supporting workers over the years has been exciting and challenging. In the past few years we have seen an amazing expansion in the activities of SKI and this has been in the growth in support for those working with children, young people and families and, in particular, our involvement with child sponsorship schemes and those caring for orphans and children in need.
Some of those schemes have been featured in previous years but we felt that it was right to concentrate on various childcare and child sponsorship schemes again in this year’s report, as we did last year. It is interesting to observe that SKI is funding the care of many more orphans and needy children today than were being cared for in the Homes in the nineteenth century.
Perhaps the position of and care for children generally in the UK is much better than years ago but that is not true in the world as a whole.
