The Partnership with St Luke’s, Brislington is going well. At the time of writing I am approximately ? of my way through this 3-year Partnership.
God says in 1 Corinthians 12 v 12 that … “The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body.” and in verse 27… “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”
With this in mind I have been able to encourage the Church to get involved in their local community. One of the ways in which this has happened is by Church members forming an assembly team consisting of 3 people who visit 2 infant schools, at present on a once a term basis. They are an excellent group of people who have never done anything like this before, but who are willing to put themselves out for God and as a result have enjoyed the experience.
It was also good to have a ‘Holiday Club’ during the last week of August 2004. Again this was something entirely new to the Church and everyone enjoyed themselves so much that they were more than happy to have another go this August. Preparations are now underway, but this time the Church is more involved in the actual running of the event with 2 volunteer coordinators.
Another projectwas a Christian based ‘AfterSchool Club’. This was also a new activity so we started a pilot scheme after Easter, which was a success in as much as the children enjoyed coming and the school were happy to let us use their premises. Sadly there were not enough volunteers to run the club on a long-term basis so it had to close at the end of the pilot study.
However, the school have expressed their willingness for it to be started again at a later date should the right people be found to run it. Despite this setback the Church have seen that this is something that they can do.
Others areas of work that I am still involved in are attending the weekly toddlers group where I make myself available to the parents and carers if they have any difficulties, pastoral visiting when required, supporting the Church’s children’s workers and also working in a local infant school once a week. Apart from St Luke’s Church I am still working with the training department of The George Müller Foundation covering parenting skills, bereavement training/awareness and assembly training to mention just a few.
I thank God for his presence with me as I seek to do his work in this area of Bristol and for his
protection over me in my every day travelling.
