ARCHIVE YEARS

Emmanuel Chapel, Henbury, Bristol

The early part of 2004 was a difficult period for Emmanuel and we wondered how we were going to maintain even the current level of activities come September.

After prayer, a directWord came from the Lord that it was ‘His Church’ and as leaders we should just give Him our needs and let Him ‘do the building’. Not blinding science, but it is easy to move away from this principal.

We soon found willing workers for both the ‘Mums & Toddlers’ group and ‘Music Kids’, where
parents/carers bring their pre-school children for somemusical interaction. Both of these groups are well thought of in the community and they are an example of our ‘faith in action’ as we serve the communities of Henbury & Brentry.

We continue to have an open door into the local primary school and that allows us to run a weekly ‘Life Skills’ club, and also take some assemblies.

Towards the end of the year a ‘Drop In’ centre was established at the Church and this is reaching young people of secondary school age and up to eighteen. It’s a place for chilling out and there is a gradual trust being built up which allows discussion on all aspects of life …. oh, and the burgers are good.

We have not, as yet, fulfilled our aim of working in  Henbury School. An item for prayer.

As a church we entered 2005 in a very positiveway and we are grateful for theway the Lord is shaping and moulding us ready for greater challenges ahead. As the review period ended we were looking forward to a church weekend away where we were to study the book of Nehemiah and learn how to pull together as a team.

The needs of Henbury & Brentry are massive but our Lord has the resources. We trust Him to build.
